Admission Standards
An applicant must meet the following requirements to qualify for admission to NWKTC. These Admissions Standards for admission to NWKTC. These Standards apply to full-time and part-time students.

   1. Have a high school diploma or GED
   2. Be 16 years of age or older
   3. Select a major and indicate a program of study.

Applicants who do not meet the above standards may qualify as a special student by meeting the following criteria:
   1a. Be concurrently enrolled at NWKTC and at a high school or
   1b. Applicant without a high school diploma demostrating the Ability to Benefit
   2. Be 16 years of age or older
   3. Select a major and indicate a program of study.

Students who qualify as special students are eligible for the technical certificate or a certificate of completion. When the student completes their high school diploma or GED , they become eligible for the AAS Degree option.

Ability to Benefit Policy
A student qualifies for admission by demonstrating Ability to Benefit by meeting the following guidelines:

   1. Complete the aptitude test and meet the minimum score for the program of        study.
   2. A conference must be held with the college counselor to discuss test
      results, student's ability to benefit from the program and admission as a
      special student.
   3. To qualify for Federal Financial Aid the student must pass the ASSET or
      Compass writing, reading, and numerical skills assessment given by
      Colby Community College, Colby, Kansas. Contact the college counselor
      concerning questions about attending as an ability to benefit student.
   4. Contact the college counselor concerning questions about attending as an
       Ability ot Benefit student.


Departmental Admission Stipulations
A Cosmetology student must have a high school diploma or GED and be at least 17 years of age upon their scheduled graduation date before they can take the Kansas State Board Exam. This is a requirement to become licensed to work in Kansas.

A Medical Assistant student must be 18 by the completion of the program of study. A student is encouraged to test and thus complete the AAMA National Certification. A complete background check is required.

Respiratory Therapy students will be required to have the following prerequisite course work completed: Biology (4 credit hours) and Chemistry (5 credit hours) to enter the program. A complete background and interview will be conduct prior to admittance into the program.


Placement Testing
Students must have completed an ACT, ASSET, or COMPASS Test within the last five years. Test results are used to determine a student' s level of skill in math and reading for placement in developmental classes. ASSET and Compass assessment is given on campus at NWKTC by arrangement or during freshman orientation. Minimum scores required for each program of study may be requested by contacting the college counselor. Students may schedule the assessments on an individual basis by calling the Student Services office.

Residency Requirements
A student must reside at a Kansas address on the first day of attendance to qualify for the in-state tuition rate. Students who do not reside in Kansas and commute to classes will be charged the out-of-state tuition rate.
