Communications Network Technology is an intensive 10-month program focusing on telecommunications in the Outside Plant (OSP) and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) career areas. The program includes fiber optic installation and repair, cable and subscriber carrier installation and repair, and customer premise equipment including voice mail, PBX, key telephone systems, data communications, and the co-location of all of these systems.
Instruction will begin with basic electricity and electronics and includes DC, AC, and digital fundamentals. Students are taught telecommunication concepts, telecommunication terms and acronyms, and workplace safety.
The telecommunication instructors provide both classroom and hands-on instruction in station wiring, cable splicing and maintenance, fiber optics, voice and data equipment, blueprint reading, and cabling techniques. Students will learn to install and repair digital subscriber carrier, voice mail, key telephone and PBX equipment, and cable TV.
Students may obtain certification as a Broadband Premise Specialist (BPS) through the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and the Keptel Certification for fiber closure.
