International Admissions Process

How to Apply for Admission

Northwest Tech gladly welcomes students of all nationalities interested in pursing a technical education. Below we have provided a step-by-step process for what you need in order to gain admission to Northwest Tech.

Documents Required for Acceptance (International Students)

All documents must be in PDF form and sent directly to International@nwktc.edu


To finalize your admission, we must have the following documents on file:

  • Complete the Application for Admission
  • Pay a $25 application fee
  • Official Original Transcript and Official Translated (English) Transcript
    • Transcripts that are not in English must be translated officially and sent by a third party to Northwest Tech. (Do not send transcripts yourself)
    • If you send a 7th semester transcript (before you graduate) you will have to send a final translated transcript after your graduation date.
      Students must also provide a copy of their official diploma.
    • Official transcripts and certificates must be sent directly from the respective school.
    • Transcripts or certificates that are photocopied/scanned and sent from the student will not be accepted.
  • English Proficiency for Full Admission
    • Students whose country’s official language is not English must document their English proficiency in one of the following ways. If scores are above these thresholds, students will be fully admitted. Click here to view a list of English speaking countries.
    • TOEFL: iBT (internet-based test): minimum score of 61 and above
    • IELTS: 5.0
    • 2 years of secondary school English with the equivalent of a “C” or higher.
    • Scores must not be less than 18 months old at the time of enrollment
    • Students that within this range and higher will not be required to take additional English immersion coursework.
    • English Proficiency for Provisional AdmissionStudents whose country’s official language is not English must document their English proficiency in one of the following ways. Students who score in this range will be required to take additional English Language Instruction while attending Northwest Tech.
    • TOEFL: iBT (internet-based test): minimum score of 20 – 60.
    • IELTS: 4.0
    • 1 years of secondary school English with the equivalent of a “C” or higher.
    • Scores must not be less than 18 months old at the time of enrollment
    • Students that score within this range must complete an English Immersion course during their first semester at Northwest Tech.
  • Affidavit of Sponsorship
    • The affidavit document must be dated within 6 months of the start of your first semester of courses at Northwest Tech.
    • The affidavit will be emailed directly to you to complete and return.
    • The affidavit must me notarized.
  • Provide proof of financial support
    • Submit a certified bank statement dated within six months of the start of class in the dollar amount stated on your affidavit. The statement must be in English. The amount listed is the estimated one-year cost of tuition, textbooks, tools and living expenses minus any financial support you may be receiving from the college.
  • Copy of Passport
    • In order to help our staff issue accurate visa documentation, we require a copy of your passport. This will be used to verify personal information and maintain accuracy.

Next Steps

Once you have been admitted to the college, we will send you a letter of acceptance and an official I-20 document you will need for your embassy visit. You will then need to complete the following steps:

  • SEVIS Fee
    • The U.S. Government requires the payment of a non-refundable $200 SEVIS fee for all international students before issuing a visa.
    • You can complete the I-901 form and submit payment online at www.FMJfee.com using a credit card.
  • Visa Interview
    • You will need to schedule a visa appointment at your local US Consulate or US Embassy after paying the SEVIS fee. The receipt form (Form I-797) is used to schedule the interview. Students should bring the following to the interview:
    • Signed I-20 from Northwest Kansas Technical College
    • Passport
    • Acceptance letter from Northwest Kansas Technical College
    • Form I-797 SEVIS fee receipt
    • Completed visa application
    • Financial support documents (affidavit and bank statements mentioned above)
