Northwest Tech Diesel Technology Groundbreaking Ceremony

Northwest Tech Diesel Technology Groundbreaking Ceremony [Goodland, KS] Northwest Kansas Technical College will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Kansas Institute of Diesel Technology at 11:30 am MT on Tuesday, April 4th.  When complete, the new 5,000 sq. ft. expansion of the facility will provide students with comprehensive training in agricultural and over-the-road dynamometers.

US Senator Jerry Moran will be on hand to celebrate the groundbreaking and deliver remarks. “Sen. Moran has been a tremendous supporter of technical education across Kansas and we are excited to have him on campus for this event,” said Northwest Tech President Ben Schears. “This project will provide critical space on campus to address regional workforce and economic development needs in our area”.

Since 2010, the Kansas Institute of Diesel Technology at Northwest Tech has consistently placed more than 97% of its graduates directly into the workforce after graduation. A large part of this tremendous success is due to the program’s partnerships with regional businesses that help shape the coursework for the modern industry. This project will provide improved education and training of students to meet job demands of local and regional employers.

Diesel Instructor, Jason Cook, added, “This project will give students access to state-of-the-art equipment and the opportunity to work towards certification to work on commercial diesel trucks, setting up our students for career success.”

The primary source of the project’s funding, close to $1.2 million, was provided by the U.S. Economic Development Agency (EDA). The Dane G. Hansen Foundation provided a matching grant for $150,000. An additional $85,000 was funded by the Kansas Department of Commerce through their “Jobs and Innovative Industry Skills Training” grant.

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking to celebrate the start of construction.
