Northwest Tech Welcomes Justin Hales as New Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

As the Lady Maverick Basketball program enters its seventh year of competition, Justin Hales has accepted the position as assistant coach. Hales has been coaching for the past five years. Hales spent the past three years coaching at the high school level in Texas. Previously, Hales spent one year as the varsity assistant and J.V. head coach at Big Sandy ISD in Big Sandy, Texas. Hales has also spent one year as a student assistant at Angelo State University and one year as an assistant coach at McMurry University in Abilene Texas.

“Justin has the experience both as a college and high school coach to bring valuable perspective to the program, “ said President Ben Schears, “…he’s a great addition to the coaching staff.”

Coach Hales has always had a passion for coaching. “What I love most about coaching is the opportunities it affords me as a coach. I have a front row seat to see student athletes grow in a variety of different ways,” says Hales, “I pride myself on ensuring that all of our athletes will grow not only as players, but in every facet of their lives.”

As the Lady Maverick basketball season approaches, Coach Hales has a simple, yet stern expectation for his players, “I expect that we do not take any day for granted and that we seek to get better than we were the day before. I believe in a process that makes players better and holds them accountable in every aspect of their lives”.

Hales graduated from Angelo State University in August of 2014 with his bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Hales is originally from Liberty City, Texas.
